Where are you training as an adult actor?
I train at the Atlantic Acting School, a branch of NYU’s acting program.
What year are you in at college or conservatory?
I’m in my final semester graduating in December.
How did the Young Actor’s Studio prepare you for college?
Not only did the Young Actor’s Studio prepare me for college but I also feel I started school with a leg up on all the kids in my program. I came to college with a legitimate approach to script analysis, a philosophy on acting, and tools that equipped me to delve deeply into character. It is so rare in Los Angeles to find an acting program that fosters artistic integrity and doesn’t just shallowly advise about how to audition or “make it in the industry.” Jeff and Andrew teach their students with a wonderful sense of play, care, but also great seriousness and encouragement to create something real on stage. I still talk to all my classmates who studied there with me and they continue to be a group of artists who inspire me greatly.
How has this become an artistic home for you?
I was lost in high school, neither fitting in with my basketball team nor the boisterous theater kids. I was shy and at the studio I found a group of such diverse people and personalities that welcomed me with open arms. The Young Actor’s Studio was my refuge, outlet, and fulfillment and when I return from break, still is.
Why do you continue to create at The Young Actor’s Studio, even after attending college?
I will always love creating at The Young Actor’s Studio because I take great inspiration from Andrew and Jeff and their support and commitment to art. I had the great pleasure of directing a new play by a talented young playwright at the Young Actor’s Studio this last summer and it was an incredibly rewarding experience. I was astonished by the talent in acting and writing by so many at such a young age. I’d happily come back to direct again.
What should students expect when coming to The Young Actor’s Studio?
Students should expect to delve deeply into their craft to become better actors, writers, and artists. This place is special. It fosters a safe environment that allows for freedom of expression and lays the foundation for young artists to blossom. I feel so grateful for finding it. I wouldn’t be the same artist I am today.
