Jeff's Kids acting Classes Younger Groups Saturday and Sunday Week 1 and 2 Winter Semester 2010
We did some awesome work. On Saturday and Sunday, The 7-12 year old groups did the name exercise which deals with stage fright and allowing that to become the very thing that makes you a great actor. We then did character work, choosing a person from your life and re creating their voice, how they walk, how they move etc; afterwhich we worked on character improvs around this.
2nd we worked on Improvisations that teaches how an actor has to have a want and a problem that they are trying to overcome and that all scenes are a fight to the finish to get what you want.
Saturday Class- We did "Passing the note" (behind the teachers' back), "Abuse," with Maya Morgen and Stephen Santos and they were rockin'! Sephen played a boy who was living alone with his father and is abused physically. Maya played his best friend, who wants to call the police to help him. Stephen doesn't want to be put in foster care and is begging her not to tell. They were amazing!! I want the world to see their improv.
Sunday Class- We did a new warm up called Vampire, which they loved. They did "passing the note," and outstanding work was the Abuse scene with Nicholas and Valeria. We did "Twisted Ankle" improv which was really fun where Sarafina and Jake are planning to cut class, but right out side the principal's offeis Sarafina twists her ankle. One wants to go to Great Adventure and the other wants to go back to school to get help. It was funny and fun.
I also introduced the kids to Relaxation and Sense Memory. They worked on 5 senses from each senory group, touch, taste, sight, smell, and sound.
I had the kids create a haunted house using set pieces from the theatre to teach them how the physical details or props and furniture help make the scene very real.
It was a great new fun exercise!!
